There are very few confections that provide the satisfaction of a great doughnut. Miami isn’t necessarily a town known for great doughnuts, but we have hidden gems, like my favorites, Mojo Doughnuts, and Salty Doughnuts, both serving up amazing specialty doughnuts daily. They’re good, but my loyalty remains with the Black owned DAT DOUGHNUTS in Chicago, home of some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had.
When visiting Atlanta and hit with a mood for great doughnuts, I stopped by the Black-owned Sublime Doughnuts for some no frills and straight to the point soft, sugary, and deliciousness. My favorite was the Fresh Strawberry N Cream, which stood out because of the fresh whole strawberries enclosed between the tawny rounded pastry, and like most good doughnuts, its sugar oil glaze brandished a sheen while also managing to hit me with a slight dense and vague crunch when taking a comprehensive bite! I am embarrassed and ashamed to admit that these doughnuts were so good, I couldn’t resist ordering a dozen, six of which I ate despite being on a fitness journey.
My second favorite is the classic Honey-Glazed Bowtie, extended and wrapped into a beautiful twirl that I carefully unraveled to eat a doughnut line! These delicious doughnuts were hypnotic. They turned the bottom of the decorative box into a sugary resistant brume, and as I picked up each one I swear I felt a small magnetic attraction. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it to explain why I wolfed down 6 doughnuts in one sitting.
Sublime is a great spot for doughnut lovers. They’re serving up classic glazed doughnuts by the dozen, bismarcks with delicious jam bursting through, crullers, bowties, and large and small and cake doughnuts so good they needed nothing added to or subtracted from them.
I enjoyed both the doughnuts and the space, which is great for after dinner or to satisfy a sweet craving since they’re open 24 hours. Visit them at 535 10th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 or call at Phone: (404) 897-1801
