The authenticity of this particular cheesesteak may be a subject of debate, but what remains indisputable is the sheer excellence it exudes. Having sampled the offerings of some of Philadelphia’s most venerated establishments, including Dalessandro’s Steaks, Hoagies, Barry’s Steaks, and the iconic Geno’s, none could rival the culinary delight I experienced at Taste Cheesesteak Bar.
Patience was a virtue well-rewarded, as the establishment exudes a jubilant, almost club-like atmosphere. Despite the youthful music resonating through the air, the clientele spanned generations, with a diverse mix of patrons, from energetic twenty-somethings to seasoned individuals in their 60s, all partaking in the merriment while savoring pizza slices and libations.
For my part, I ordered both the beef cheesesteak and the beef pizza. The cheesesteak was a masterpiece of simplicity, artfully composed to deliver an unforgettable taste. It all began with the Italian roll, exquisitely soft and slightly crisp on the outside, yet irresistibly pillowy and warm within. A request for mayo and provolone cheese resulted in a melty perfection that gave the sandwich an almost surreal visual appeal. In a word, it was amazing.
The cheesesteak pizza was equally remarkable. The pizza dough struck a harmonious balance between softness and chewiness, with the fortitude required to cradle the delectable contents. Seasoned beef, cheese, onions, and the in-house marinara sauce combined to create a memorable culinary experience with every bite.
