DURHAM, NC – Father God, I beseech you to intervene in a very serious matter. I thank you for using a small boy to miraculously multiply five loaves and two fish to feed a multitude of people, setting the foundation for African Americans to enjoy fried fish and bread at our fish fries all over this nation. Your intervention is requested today because a demonic presence known as previously frozen fish and shrimp threatens the deliciousness of fried fish and shrimp.
Our recent foodie tour to North Carolina took us to Durham to visit Skrimp Shack, located at 3600 N Duke St #28, Durham, NC 27704, and its utterly demonic cuisine. Everything was fried to an imperfect texture of staleness with an underlying but very prominent frost-bitten flavor. The saltiness was so excessive that Lot’s wife couldn’t even compete. The super processed seafood had to start its journey in Antarctica before being shipped to Fox News anchor Ann Hart Coulter’s house for “seasoning” and processing before being fried by none other than President of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Paula Dean.
I have absolutely nothing good to say about the cuisine nor the service, so instead of wasting time describing the disastrous meal, I’ll provide suggestions to fix it.
Dear Skrimp Shack owners, please cease all procurement from your purveyors. The French fries, hush puppies, fish, shrimp, everything. Please research a purveyor who can provide minimally processed seafood with an in-house batter that can be separated for the fish, shrimp, and chicken. Change the oil regularly and ensure that your staff is monitoring the temperature of both the freezer and cooler while labeling the boxes with dates. Ideally, you don’t want to freeze the fish.
You’re in North Carolina, so there are options for fresh shrimp and fish. These will cost you, but it’s worth the investment and you will make it back.
Readers, if you visit, please share your constructive criticism to help the owners because they can be better and do better. I look forward to returning for a much-improved dining experience.
God hear our prayer.
PRAISE REPORT! I was recently informed that this location is under new Black ownership and will be redeemed. I can’t wait to visit and give you all an update on this space that has incredible potential.
Amen.
