We recently returned to Detroit and are so glad we did! A full circle moment, because our blog, www.thehungryblackman.com was launched following a visit to this amazing city about 6 years ago. We spent more time there during our latest visit, which included a good mix of hits and misses. Thankfully, one of those hits was a hole in the wall with the best fried catfish of the entire tour. Located inside the New Bentley Lounge and Club located at 19631 Plymouth Rd, Detroit, MI 48228, Jaydee’s Soul Food packed a huge punch in its little space; so much so that my team and I fought over the leftover catfish, mac and cheese and potato salad in the car.
Admittedly, my taste buds were enhanced beforehand by an expensive pack of Oreo cookies with a little extra ingredient – another awesome Detroit benefit! This very pleasant surprise discovery included me ordering a couple of manly cocktails in the lounge. I call them manly because after one cocktail I was ready to do the Peanut Butter Jelly all over the spot.
The potato salad was solid, and the rib tips were okay, but not the best during this visit. We wanted to order more food but had to pass in order to make it to our next review. We definitely regretted not being able to order more because on the way out, we saw dishes that made our mouths water.
Too bad, because not being able to get more food made it necessary for me to win the battle for those delicious catfish bites. I am so looking forward to returning to Motor City to try the chef’s other items and get more of those catfish nuggets. You can call them at (313) 643-8491.
Thank you 🙏🏽
