Our Tennessee Black Foodie Tour was birthed after I read a friend’s newly created list of Black owned Nashville restaurants. We visited some of the state’s most delicious Black owned eateries in not only Nashville, but also in Chattanooga and Memphis.
Tacos With A Twist Mexican Table
Mexican cuisine has always been one of my favorites, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find a Black owned taco spot on the list! Tacos with A Twist, located at 810 Gale Ln #104, Nashville, TN 37204 is a swanky and bright space with an incredible bar that can be enjoyed outside or in with delicious and creative cocktails. My favorite was the Melrose Sunrise, which had a beautiful ginger finish woven into a robust passionfruit flavor delivering a balanced, yet exciting experience.
Taco Salad
As a taco purist, the tacos were surprisingly not my favorite on the menu. What did it for me were there incredible taco salads. Especially the Southwestern Salad with a generous base of crisp Romaine lettuce topped with grilled Mexican street corn, black beans, tomatoes, green onions, Mexican spiced bacon, and house-made corn tortilla strips for the desired crunch all unified under the delicious blanket of avocado-ranch dressing. I added grilled chicken and let’s just say I was a happy diner. The salad was filling to the point where I honestly didn’t have room for anything else.

Although stuffed, I forced myself to order a steak quesadilla, which I enjoyed. The space is new and ownership is looking forward to evolving their menu along with their amazing cocktail program. The standout salads completely overshadow the tacos. I look forward to our next tour so that I can try their other salad creations and amazing cocktails.
