Have you ever visited a restaurant and each entrée got increasingly better and better? Or a spot that had an existing concept, but demonstrated a hidden capability suggesting they should develop further?
Uber Wings, located at 9570 SW 160th St, Miami, FL 33157, was filled with pleasant culinary surprises. Owners, Kristy and Rashid Ibrahim, opened this eatery a little over a year ago with the hopes of providing fresh, healthy and delicious menu options to the South Dade area, which has very few Black owned eateries. The restaurant is beautiful with ample seating and large LED televisions throughout for watching games and other broadcasts.
The menu is exhaustively large and a bit overwhelming when you’re trying to decide; however, I’ll let you in on a secret. Like for real, not just a figure of speech. This is a real secret goddammit! If you flip the menu upside down, you can order off the SECRET MENU! I blasted this on my video review to inform unsuspecting diners of this amazing menu that features “white table cloth” restaurant style entrees. No kidding! You can have grilled rosemary marinated lamb chops with a balsamic and olive oil drizzle; or a blackened salmon with sautéed spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, with a side of herbed jasmine rice. You don’t believe me, do you? You think this is a damn game? Hell no! Look at this ish!
Sorry for yelling at you. I just get so passionate when I see amazing things happening in unassuming places in our neighborhoods. It gets me going! But in all seriousness, Kristy and Rashid ain’t playing no games with ya’ll. Uber Wings is a fine dining spot in the making!
Now, if you aren’t ready for the secret menu, let me take you to their very extensive healthy and vegan friendly daily menu. For starters, I tried the Vegan Triple Stack Quesadilla ($10.00), which was delicious. It comes with a vegan cheese, spinach, and other plants that I can’t remember.
Next, I ordered one of their Rice Bowls with chicken ($9.45), which came with chopped chicken breast corn, lettuce, pico de gallo and cheese. The sauces for the bowls include curry mustard, uber secret sauce and uber yum yum sauce.
You can also get the bowl with any other protein served at the restaurant, including shrimp! I chose the curry mustard for my chicken bowl with all the toppings! Freaking amazing. It resembles the chicken bowl at Chicken Kitchen.
Still on my chicken vibe, I ordered 5 wings for ($5.95) with the honey buffalo sauce! Lord have mercy. These wings are both natural and delicious. Don’t go expecting those Walmart or Winn Dixie sized, steroid-injected jumbo wings that we eat from the local Chinese restaurant. These are natural chickens acquired from responsible cruelty-free farms. (I greatly appreciated this after driving through an actual chicken killing factory. That sh@t is terrible enough to make you want to support free range chicken farms).
The wings were fried on the hard side with the sauce literally stealing the show. Uber Wings is known for their creative and delicious sauces, including local favorites like trips sauce, peanut butter and jelly, and of course the uber secret sauce – my favorite!
Along with the chicken wings I had fried mac and cheese balls, which were fried to perfection with creamy and flavorful mac and cheese literally oozing out once you pierce the crunch ball. Wait, that sounds completely wrong, but nonetheless, that is the experience. You can also select flavored wings without sauce which include other amazing flavors as well.
Following the wings, we moved on to one of my childhood favorites, a grilled cheese sandwich. Uber Wings did a cool twist on this classic with their nostalgic and delicious Grilled Cheese Waffle Croissant ($9.79). It comes with Havarti cheese, caramelized onions, fresh tomato and a turkey bacon with just the right amount of salt; and is served with a bowl of tomato basil soup made in-house.
I am so impressed. The service, food quality and presentation were above average on almost every measurement. To end things, I went for the Brownie & Ice cream ($7.49) and Fried Oreos; the most decadent dessert on the menu.
My favorite dessert, the Red Velvet Fried Oreos, needs to be eaten while seated. Lord, give me strength because they had my knees shaking uncontrollably while I stood up. I’m warning you; eat them seated with a glass of cold milk. The brownie was honestly just a brownie. It was okay.
To wash everything down, this establishment has craft sodas. In short, they taste better than normal sodas and are less bad for you. Of course, the one with African roots stood out the most. Kola nut cola has a slightly bitter flavor and a small amount of caffeine. The kola nut is an evergreen tree nut originating from the tropical rainforests of Africa. The nut itself is the fruit of the kola tree and can range in size from as small as a chestnut to as large as a potato! Widely used to flavor drinks, I found it to be both refreshing and delicious. If sodas aren’t your thing they have amazing smoothies as well. I enjoyed this berry one I ordered on my way out. It was extremely refreshing and filled with real fruit and berries!
