If cameraman Korey (@KoreyDavisPhotography) doesn’t shoot it, I won’t eat it.
I was on my way to Buffalo Wild Wings in Aventura to watch a game when I noticed the Green Eggs restaurant. My mind immediately went to the Dr. Seuss books I read as a kid. It was closed at the time, so I decided that I would go and check it out Saturday morning. What an excellent decision. Green Eggs is located minutes away from Aventura Mall.
The place is actually a Philadelphia born brunch and lunch chain that expanded to Aventura about three years ago. The space is beautifully lit and totally eschews a standard diner look with modernized furniture and accessories throughout. They even have a full service bar with high-top chairs while capturing a true tropical Miami feel.
Because it was Saturday morning, I figured I should start off with an alcoholic beverage. I created my own “Breakfast Cocktails,” but the restaurant has a pretty decent list of alcoholic options, so you can have at it. I needed something special, so I used my favorite gin, Hendricks to quench my thirst! I absolutely loved my drink.
After I was nice and floating and with a clear mind, I put in my first order of Red Velvet Pancakes ($15.00), a cappuccino ($.3.50) and a La Colombe Coffee ($3.00) . All three were great. The Red Velvet Pancakes were served with chocolate morsels and strawberry mascarpone layers, topped with maple syrup, chantilly cream and fresh strawberries. Yep, it was heaven. I thought it was a little pricey, but if I had eaten the entire plate, I would have been full. These pancakes are monstrous. Both the cappuccino and coffee were strong, but tasty and balanced. The pancakes are a MUST HAVE; my third favorite item here.
Sticking with the sweet and not savory, I ordered the Crème Brulee French Toast ($13), by far, the BEST THING ON THE MENU! The french toast is made from challah bread soaked in a vanilla bean custard sauce and topped with berry compote, vanilla anglaise, and savory maple syrup. I asked for my syrup to be heated and it flowed like the River Jordan! The French toast is one of those items that is simple, but ridiculously delicious. Definitely one of, if not THE BEST FRENCH TOAST IN MIAMI! Morgan’s in Wynwood is pretty close, but Green Eggs took #1. It’s definitely a MUST HAVE.
Pretty hard to follow the French toast, so I ordered the Chicken & Waffle Benedict ($13). This beautiful creation comes with a fried chicken thigh, two poached eggs on a buttermilk waffle half smothered in maple syrup and a hollandaise style sauce that was on the hot side. I loved this dish. If you don’t like poached eggs, ask them to cook it through and through; it is just as good, but without all the oozing. I like my eggs runny and remain unbothered by people who judge those of us who enjoy the slightly raw egg yolk making its way throughout our food. Don’t knock it until you try it.
Following the Benedict, I ordered the Quinoa Porridge ($9). This little bowl was AMAZING! I didn’t know you could make porridge from quinoa. It came with agave nectar, cinnamon, cardamom, golden raisins, and cream topped with fresh berries and sweet mixed berry compote. Yes Lawd! This dish gives you life. It jockeyed between being my second or third favorite item. A bit nostalgic in taste, it reminds you of Grandma’s oatmeal.
Green Eggs is a great place for lunch and brunch. The staff and management offer superior customer service while providing you with tons of information regarding the dishes; how they are made and what to order based on your mood. Ever since stumbling on this place, I have become a regular. The dishes I’ve reviewed are my go to. The menu is a bit more expansive, but I stick to what I like.
I also love that the clientele is a diverse group of Black and White folk simply enjoying great food together. Located at 18729 Biscayne Blvd, Aventura, FL 33180, stop by on your way to Aventura Mall. This place gets 9 out of 10 for me, and is definitely HUNGRY BLACK MAN APPROVED! You can reach them at (786) 657-7225.
